The Renaissance of the North Shore

The St. George Waterfront will soon be dynamically transformed by the St. George Waterfront Redevelopment Project including the construction of the tallest observation wheel in the Western Hemisphere (taking 38 minutes to complete a single rotation), a high-end outlet retail complex and hotel, to heat things up in Staten Island this summer. This transformation is said to “change the impression of Staten Island” from the “forgotten borough” to an “urban getaway” with a “hip waterfront.”

Hip, Vibrant, Diverse Borough

Staten Island is recovering (like the rest of the country) from what economists and others had dubbed “the great recession.” Homes are now selling quickly with the market looking “red hot.” In addition, top retailers have placed Staten Island in the center of their planning radar making it on the verge of a retail revolution making this one hip, vibrant and diverse borough to call home.

Have Some Serious Family Fun

Splash around at one of the eight Parks Department pools for some sun and fun or hit up any of the island’s beaches such as South Beach or Midland Beach. For some more family fun, check out the Staten Island Cool Zoo Summer Series, take the kids to Faber Park to skate around at their brand-new waterfront skate park or even pitch a tent for free with the city’s Parks Department and National Park Service (check out the camp dates and locations).

Celebrate Independence Day

The New Jersey cities of Perth Amboy and South Amboy are partnering with Staten Island to bring residents “Celebrate our Stars and Stripes,” an event that will feature fireworks on July 2. Enjoy a concert and exciting fireworks show at the Conference House Park to celebrate the fourth of July.

Go ahead and act like a tourist (even if you live here) and explore all the great things that Staten Island has to offer.
