Living in St. George Becomes Even Better With Addition of Empire Outlets

The North Shore of Staten Island and Neighborhood of St. George have been getting quite a bit of attention lately, and for good reason – there are a lot of exciting things happening here. Like the New York Wheel, which will be the largest observation wheel in the world once it is built, New York City’s first outlet mall will now occupy waterfront property on the North Shore. To those living in St. George, the new Empire Outlets will open up a slew of new retail and employment options, making the area an even more ideal place to live.

The outlet mall announced over the summer that it officially has its first tenant. Nordstrom Rack will serve as the anchor in the million-square-foot mall. One hundred outlets are expected to rent space in the two-story Nordstrom Rack, which will also feature 40,000 square feet for restaurants and a 200-room hotel.

“We want Nordstrom Rack to be Staten Island’s destination for great brands at great prices,” Nordstrom Rack President Geevy Thomas said.
“We have been focused on finding the best locations across New York City and are thrilled to have the opportunity to serve New Yorkers and tourists alike at this major transportation hub and destination that is all combined with retail, entertainment and restaurants,” he added.

The mall itself will offer an incredible view of the Manhattan skyline from across New York Harbor, making it a destination for tourists as well as New Yorkers from the other four boroughs. The already-busy, yet family-friendly neighborhood of St. George is expected to see an increase in visits as the mall and attractions such as the New York Wheel begin to open.

As attractions and commerce centers continue to arrive in St. George, Staten Island becomes a more desirable destination. Living in St. George is a great way to experience Staten Island and the revival of the North Shore. Not only will Empire Outlets be the first outlet mall in any borough of New York City, but it will also be an easy walk from the Staten Island Ferry. Manhattanites and residents from other boroughs will have a new and compelling reason to take the ferry to St. George on a regular basis. St. George, which already benefits from the ferry terminal, will have the added benefit of tourism, new job opportunities and an influx in retail revenue.
