The decision to bring Whole Foods to the island is still up in the air, but recently it was announced that another healthy supermarket, Fairway Market, will be coming to the Staten Island Mall expansion. For those living in Staten Island, this is great news making the area an even more ideal (and healthier) place to live; improving the overall wellbeing for the residents.
Known for its organic products, the Manhattan-based Fairway Market announced that it will be the supermarket included in the Mall’s project. Expected to open at the end of 2017, this 50,000 square-foot-store is said to be a key part of the expansion of the Staten Island mall. The 1.6 million-square-foot megamall project also includes: a 75,000-square-foot enlargement to Macy’s; a 40,000-square-foot new department store; and a 53,000-square-foot cinema. Our food choices affect the health of our bodies, the earth, the economy and our community. Community leaders say the Mall’s expansion will help boost the entire borough’s economy. The 41-year-old complex’s expansion comes at a time when Empire Outlets is also being planned for St. George.
