St. George Theatre Spreads Holiday Cheer to People Living on Staten Island

For people living or renting in Staten Island, the North Shore Renaissance has made a big difference. Resurgent neighborhoods like St. George are becoming tourist destinations and offer a variety of activities for families, as well as people looking for a night out on the town.

One venue that has been hosting exciting events for many years right in the heart of the North Shore is the St. George Theatre. The iconic theatre is celebrating its 85th anniversary by hosting a number of holiday events in the month of December, targeted towards families living and renting in Staten Island.

History of the St. George Theatre

The theatre sits appropriately in the historic section of St. George and was built in 1928. The theatre rivaled and even surpassed the elegant theatres associated with Manhattan during that era of extravagant designs. However, the theatre did shut down for a period of about 30 years, excluding the filming of the final scene of the 2003 film the “School of Rock”.

The theatre opened its doors once again to the public in June of 2004 as a non-profit organized venue and has hosted more than 400 events since that time.
